SPINS FROM NATIONAL POETRY  DAY  2007

On National Poetry Day

A great claw on the end of a long-arm grab

Is nudging and lunching on Langholme Heights flats

The high shell is beginning to sway

On National Poetry Day

There are thin ribbons all across all the main roads to

Filter the traffic

In the shoals of cars

On National Poetry Day

They distribute C.D.’s for your do your own dance

In the streets

In the Picton indoor arena for all

On National Poetry Day

We merge; charge of words

In the booming dome

Resounds cascades spun away

On National Poetry Day

With the removal of  Wellingtons column

And its replacement with a giant pencil

St. George’s Hall Square  is complete

On National Poetry Day

A bunch of keys fished out of the

Freezer in Spar

It’s fingers fused; is like fire

On National Poetry Day

The clackety clack clack call

Policehover racket

Over Birchley Street Billinge

Simply cannot hear what we say………. So we write!

But the one card left in the corner shop

On National Poetry Day

Is of heart and arrow

Swirled in fresh sand

I pay at the till

It’s for you, -  for you, my love

On this National Poetry Day

The sky is azure

So high and cool

Peels of herbs heady

All scent across fencelines

Inglenooks, alleyways

of…. an afternoon

Clear

clear in Indian summer ; no sorrows

Where tides of air burn pure
