The mp3fm is a site which carries music images and poetry. The site owner Mike Mitchell is planning to mix the different forms in an artistic endeavour which challenges the artists to use the technology of the net in new and inventive ways. Several poems by Jim Bennett have already appeared and have been enhanced with ambient sounds. After listening to the music and poetry on the site, I asked Mike to tell us a little more about the site and what his plans are.

This site began life in September last year, born out of the frustration of the owner Mike Mitchell at the lack of meaningful and well produced ambient music available on the internet. Whilst the music can be found, it hitherto meant hours of searching, and worse, hours of listening to rubbish! Our interest at that time was to find and assemble music which was truly representative of the genre, music which both relaxed and inspired the mind.

By chance, we stumbled upon Jim Bennett, and the philosophy behind mp3fm changed literally overnight. We tried to define the line between ambient music and poetry, and failed. Both mediums set out to challenge, inspire and entertain. Both are a refuge from the unpleasant realities of life which most of us face.

Mp3fm is now an open space in which poetry, prose, music and art exist together. With the artists permission we sometimes combine poetry and music. The response to this approach has been very encouraging.

Above every other consideration, mp3fm is a totally interactive site. We have no pre-conceived ideas about the content and welcome contributions, ideas, critical comment, anything that will help us develop the site. We exist for the beauty of sound. We welcome established creators and new artists w ith equal enthusiasm, and can produce mp3 and RealAudio files from any recorded source. We prefer live performances, and can travel anywhere in the UK to record them. \par \par We intend to produce programmes for radio broadcast. Our team includes experienced radio producers, and we would like to make the broadcasts genuinely regional...if Radio Sheffield takes the programme we intend to have poets and musicians from the region on the show.

Please don't just sit there. Visit the site, and if you like it, or believe you would if we listened to your comments or added your contributions, join in.
