Transparent Words - Poetry

Now, Now Now

By Catherine Daly

The formula grinds the system to a halt.
Now: its value
always
changes.
Its calculation continues.
Now: the loud demand precedes,
a baby's voice pitched to get attention,
an open-throated hatchling.
Now: the present
is expensive.
Each now is a facet
wanting sun,
offering no reflection.
Now: the snuffed wicks smoking
without oxygen.
