Love the Time Machine

By Barbara Phillips

love is my time machine
it takes me back keeps
me still moves me on
holds me forever
love takes me back to
my mother who looks
on me with sorrow and pain
knowing she will not see me again
behind me is my father's voice
which tells me life leaves
suffering in its wake
erases joys then weeps
beside me love reaches
out from my children
who console and create
ultimate celebration
just ahead is present- past
and future in one who
joined me for awhile but moved
ahead to rehearse an exit
love moves me on to days
sliding in kaliedoscopes of
being together and apart
but not quite so
love is a time machine
magical continuum of moments
hidden in hearts' histories
prophet of days to come
