- Ada and Evan
by M. A. Griffiths
Before stereotypes had time to harden
Ada and Evan shared the Garden.
Ada said, "I hope God understands
that Fruit just came off in our hands."
Arguing maturely, "Did!",
"Didn't!", " Did!",
They heard God's step and quickly hid.
"Now you are mortals", breathed God's
voice,
"and capable of moral choice."
Ada said "Knowing evil must be good;
We had to claim our humanhood."
"I think you're quite right.", echoed
Evan,
"We have to die to get to heaven."
"Yes", said God,"You've done the
Knowledge.
The tree was like a moral college.
Well done on the initiative test.
Now go forth, folks, and do your best!".
In the distance God espied
greed and gore and genocide.
God shrugged and murmured "Screw it.",
twitched Her robe and left them to it.
