JOURNAL ENTRY NUMBER ONE
by Maria Theresa Ib
Not that I'm one
of the diva debutantes
Orangina-colored, chin-length hair
reading The Bell Jar and feeling
sorry for the twenty-first century.
But I'm scientifically inclined.
I'm a numbers person. Oh,
why do I lie?
To be anything but M Prep's princess
of musicals of stage and screen
is a fate worse than being
paparazzed in last season's Prada.
I've got more important things
to think about. At M Prep
I'm known as "Nobelle"
because I won the science fair
freshman year wearing a swimsuit,
fishnets, and high heels. Every WWII soldier
stopped dead in his Chuck Taylor All-Stars
and shouted: "Who are you? Describe
yourself as you want to be
remembered by future generations?"
The heiress to a tobacco fortune
who has been recognized
before the ink was dry
on the divorce papers.
