Barry Fitton - Holland
A rainy Brussels night
The rain falls heavy
Through the heat
Of the Brussels night
Down through the sky
Endless
Caressing
In a feeble attempt
To cool the city
Streets
I walk on
Past Madau
Past Botanique
Through neon lit streets
By the gare du nord
Past
Doorstop invitations
Painted faces
And thrust out thighs
Past
Brightly lit cafes
Excavations
Of open sewers
Past dogs
Fornicating on street corners
To the delight
Of the sleepy whores
Who ply their trade there?
Past a drunken tourist
Pissing against a wall
Trying to pretend
That he is
Reading a poster
Until
Reaching the place
Where I live
Climbing the stair
To my empty bed
I thought of you
A hundred miles away
And wondered
If it was raining
There too
