One moment
you're stepping into

the subway car--I turn
around to see did I
forget the bag of records
I got from Muchnik's
Music Store,

the door shuts,
the car lurches away--
you're making awful
gestures at me
like you can't believe
could I be so dumb--

I'm holding the bag
tight--records don't
make awful gestures

as you slide
into a dark tunnel.
