Ted Hughes
the day I heard that Ted Hughes had died I felt quite sad not as sad as I had been when Chapman shot John Lennon or even as sad as when I heard John Denver had died in a plane crash or Elvis on his toilet eating burgers but I was sad not as sad as when the flowers that made you smile had wilted or the holiday we booked was cancelled I just thought it was a little sad wondered if he would rest in peace or have his name scratched off his own tombstone like off Sylvia’s on the day I heard that Ted Hughes had died we went to McDonalds thought about who would be the next Poet Laureate realized it didn’t matter because no one would ask us anyway and someone would be whatever we said and later we would be able to say we never chose them later still when I found Ted Hughes was laid to rest hidden on Dartmoor I thought that was really sad |
