POETRY FROM CUT-UP TEXT

from a scientific magazine----------

 Before My Life Began
by Barbara Phillips

submarine archipelagoes fashioned like tapestries
this realm this coral eden
I look down and see my shadow
haunt dreamlike oddities

rimmed by shadows of rainforest
warm shallow oceans
the temperature of blood
I am hanging and drifting

a peaceful quiet moment in an oases
time is growing ever shorter
I look straight up through the calm surface
I see the white disk of the moon

dreamlike oddities haunt my shadow
weave in and out of wandering caverns
dark waters fall like dust
I am caught and pushed along a black slope

a shock wave hits
from my head to my toes
a bright mote I begin to rise
finally the return to the surface and light shines
