The Sand Fountain

H.D. (Hilda Doolittle -- she wrote under only her initials) wrote poems like
this, that said very little in even less space; her type of poetry was called
imagism. She may or may not have slept with Ezra Pound, who inspired and
encouraged her before he went mad; although she was married to Richard
Aldington, she was by most accounts a lesbian.

In this type of poetry, every word can be replaced by every other word. So what
is the point of the poem? The poem is the point, and having someone else read
it, or at least allowing the ink to remain in its original position until this
happens.
