H.D. (Hilda Doolittle -- she
wrote under only her initials)
wrote poems like
this, that said very little in
even less space; her type of
poetry was called
imagism. She may or may not have
slept with Ezra Pound, who
inspired and
encouraged her before he went
mad; although she was married to
Richard
Aldington, she was by most
accounts a lesbian.

In this type of poetry, every
word can be replaced by every
other word. So what
is the point of the poem? The
poem is the point, and having
someone else read
it, or at least allowing the ink
to remain in its original
position until this
happens.
