Only a month ago

an Italian number

less than this

had shaken me

to my core.

Lost in 24

small hours.

Our tears

are never

enough.

Yet here,

today,

conditioned now,

this number

sends no shock.

In fact, I find myself

lifted

by a heart beat

of hope

amidst the pulling pain.

The number

has rolled back

from the hilltop

it steadily climbed

on solemn Easter days.

A sign

that maybe,

one day,

just maybe,

life might be reclaimed.
