Two Poems - Worlds About Us - Wild garlic

Written on 14th April 2020

Worlds About Us April 2020

We live in surreal times

life has changed with

relationships once close

now only virtual links

with coronavirus or

Covid 19 -self- isolation

social distancing

entered our vocabulary

yet we can see all

around us - another world

the natural world

with no change

swallows have arrived

geese will soon depart

robins have paired up

the music of the bees

accompanies us

as we seek solace

in the garden where

life seems normal but

the internet the news

bring the horrors

of disease and war

with this hidden enemy

less thought now for

ongoing wars with famine

refugees - millions fleeing

drowning dying day

by day facing both

seen and unseen enemies

our surreal life can’t be

worse than their reality

Wild Garlic

Lockdown continues

Covid 19 continues but

here, bluebells and wild garlic

will continue to bloom

profusely year on year

their Saltire colours

inspiring, uplifting;

the natural world

bringing us hope

for better times.

Breathe in, savour

freedom of air,

savour riches that

can’t be taxed,

no-one can steal.

If leaves of wild garlic

are crushed, the scent

gets stronger, stronger -
no bruising overcomes

its powerful aroma.

Throughout all Scotland

blue and white bloom together.

Don’t trample on our lives

we scent a better future.

Getting stronger.
