Wendy Constance

Wendy Constance won the 2013 Times/Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition for unpublished authors. Her children’s novel Brave, a stone age adventure, was published in 2014. Wendy’s concern for the natural world led her to study part-time for an MA in Wild Writing: Literature and the Environment at the University of Essex, graduating with a distinction in 2018. During this time she developed an interest in poetry. Paired tanka poems (collaboration with Dr Tim Gardiner) published in The Bamboo Hut (online 2020) and short ekphrastic poems included in a forthcoming publication featuring paintings by Alfred Munnings with poems by selected poets.

Isolation 

After Morning Sun, Edward Hopper, 1952

 

I search the sky for solace

Seek truth in the solar system

Soak up the morning light

To soothe the sorrow of solitude

If I stare at the sun

Shall I go blind

What is there to see

In the silence of isolation

Isolate

I solo

I so

I
