I have no literary background as such. I am a scientist and environmentalist who enjoys literature. My previous attempts at poetry were over 60 years ago, when I was a child. The poem came to me when I awoke on May 26th, 2020.

 

Poem written 26th may 2020

To the Slash Pines


So tall they stood beside the path that wanders by the pond.
For 70 years or more they lived, then in a crash were gone.
There eagles perched to view, from high, the changes to the land;
Their prey more sparse in lake, on ground, making way for man.
The pines hosted lives so simple, yet each playing its small part,
For all life is connected and beats with one true heart.
The sunsets now see flatter lines where once the pines stood tall.
The pines told tales of a different time when nature ruled it all
