Revisiting Hilbre in My Mind

A lump of sandstone in my hand.

The tide goes in and the tide goes out

and when the tide goes out

the people walk out:

naked footprints in wet sand

to find the tidewater island

and not be cut off when the tide comes in!

Sandstone cliffs, dinosaur footprints

and my childhood footprints

walking with my grandparents

-- a place to go, sanctuary in a crazy world.
